Dear

Proposed Visit to Yevres 2010

You will recall that during our visit to France in 2009, you indicated that you were interested in re-visiting Yevres for the 66th Anniversaire de la Ceremonie Annuelle en Homage aux Aviateurs Allies, inhumes sur le Sol de la Commune et aux Civils qui sont secouru les Survivants, which this year will be held on Sun 3rd Oct.

We have been researching possible methods of travel. For such a small group, we estimate about 12-15 persons, to travel by coach/minibus does not appear viable. Even to hire a self-drive minibus the cost including insurance etc is prohibitive and there would be logistical problems concerning luggage. We have a volunteer driver (who is still young enough to have the group on his licence!).

We therefore suggest travelling by private car. Yevres is about 250miles from Calais. There are hotels in Chateaudun and at Chatres, which is about 40kms from Yevres. Chatres, also on the Loire, is an interesting city with much to see.

Ferries are currently showing a £25 each way charge and hotels (eg Balladins B&B @ C’dun/Ibis RO @ Chatres) range from circa Euros 120-220 for 2 persons for 3 nights, depending on the rate you choose. There are some smaller hotels in C’dun costing less. Lots of info on the C’dun/Chatres/Ibis websites. All costs are approx and may change.

If you are still interested please let me know as soon as possible. I suggest that if enough are interested then we can arrange to travel together on a particular ferry; individuals can decide where they wish to stay and each make our own bookings. I will co-ordinate our attendance at the Ceremonie and any subsequent activities, such as attending the vin d’honneur and perhaps a meal in the village.

Yours sincerely
